Scarlett

My husband and I have been having a hard time with our van. It totally became of those "if it's not one thing, it's another" type of deals. Transmission, air conditioning, brakes, tires - the whole 9. With my husband struggling and unable to do the repairs alone because of his injury, kids who needed a reliable vehicle to get to therapies and me starting school/work - we swallowed our pride & reached out to my parents for help. This was ... probably mid-June.

I don't know exactly how the background deals worked, but Sunday night - my mom calls and asks if I had a minute to talk. Apparently, my Grandma had just been gifted a great van, and she was looking to give her 1998 Ford Explorer to one of the grand-kids. Luckily for me, all my cousins are amazing self-sufficient individuals and had no need for it! Well, fast forward to Tuesday morning, and I am in a AAA office in Orange County with my Grandma and mom, filing out papers and getting insurance quotes!

Ain't she sexy? *giggle*

Wait, did I totally just name an inanimate object?! Yeah. I did. I don't think I could love a vehicle more. My grandma loved this car for so many years, and it's so well kept. She got teary eyed as she told me all about how it cam to be, and how good it's been to her all these years. The whole way to the AAA, she talked to me about what buttons did what and offered advice on my crappy turning skill haha. (By the way, "gliding" the wheel does totally work better.) My grandma gave me probably ten giant hugs that day. She was so happy, and gracious and ... grinning from ear to ear. And she was the one giving. I just ... couldn't stop smiling. I'm actually still smiling. While I drove home, I hit eject on the CD player, and Garth Brooks' Ropin' The Wind CD popped out. It was like a sign! I literally just blogged about it ... what, a week before this? I have to admit, I got a little teary eyed. The Creator really does work in mysterious ways. Scarlett is a total BLESSING! Even the kids love her:

Antonio DREW a full on picture of her. Now that, is love. All we have done so far is recharge the air conditioner! Oh & put in a Refresh Cherry air freshener. It's like stepping into the Arctic. If the Arctic were like, littered with awesome sweet cherries. Brrrrr, but yummm!

My future plans for Scarlett are:
1. Have Dad teach me how to change the brakes myself.
2. Hang a dreamcatcher from her rearview mirror.
3. Apply an awesome window decal.
4. Get a back-seat cover.
5. Pass on an amazing blessing to someone else.

I just have one question for you all:
Is Scarlett a truck or a car?!
Because, lets face it ... I'm not going to say "My phone is in the S.U.V!"

So, what should it be?
"My phone is in the car!" OR "My phone is in the truck!"

  1. I love Scarlett! I named my MINI Blueberry so no shame ;) I would say "car" since that's what I said when I drove my '92 explorer back in high school! I loved my explorer & it was red, too! Strawberry red to be exact with bits of glitter :P

  2. Congratulations on the new addition to your family, she looks great! I love the name Scarlett and I think it totally fits her. I actually named my Highlander Crystal so I get the whole naming your car thing. I'm a firm believer that God provides and this experience you just had is a perfect example of that. Enjoy!

  3. Woop! Scarlett is a Sexy beast! Go Grandma for giving you such an awesome gift. I am definitely one to say truck when referring to an SUV it's just my personal preference but I have heard people refer to it as a car so who knows.
