Kidviews 001
This is Antonio's very first book review on my blog. He saw me typing up the Scarlett entry, and we discussed what cool things he could do here. Well, we came up with a kids' book review! He named it Kidviews (because the series "is like a view from a kid, but a book review") and even picked his first book and weekly posting day. Check him out doing his first official post:
He wanted me to include that this is for you parents to read "to make sure the books are cool enough to get for your kids!" The following format (questions included) will remain the same for each book, but the answers will ALWAYS be filled in by Antonio, with no editing help from me whatsoever. Look for these every Monday evening! I hope you can find your kids some great new books, or even library checkouts!

Cinder (Lunar Chronicles #1) by Marissa Meyer

"No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl."
[ July 2013: BestieBook Choice ]
To be perfectly honest, I wasn't ready for the awesome that is Cinder. It all seemed too familiar fairy-tale for me. It was the promise of cyborgs, a female protagonist and lunar people that made me agree. I am super glad I did! Marissa Meyer has earned a spot on my favorites list with this series of amazing literary renditions of classic, but super-outdated fairy-tales. Cinder is only the first of four, so if you enjoy it, please look for Scarlet, Cress & Winter. Go check if your local library has this one, guys. It's completely worth it! [You can find Tatiana's review here.]
Cinder is not the storybook Cinderella in glass slippers and a pretty blue dress! Lihn Cinder is living in New Bejing, 126 years after WWIV. As a self-conscious cyborg mechanic busying herself with work, adoring her littlest step-sister, upgrading her cyborg sidekick, and figuring out how to run away - Cinder has her hands full. Throw in a stereo-typically evil stepmother and her haughty and equally vicious daughter? She's just trying to blend into the wallpaper and make her epic escape. Too bad her amazing mechanic skills just got her noticed! When Prince Kai shows up at her shop one afternoon, her whole world changes. Prince Kai is handsome, soon to be in charge and he needs her. Desperately.
This is where the story spirals into a crazy new life: a mysterious illness, a psychotic Lunar Queen, self-discovery, ballroom dancing, and strange scientists. Suddenly Cinder is center stage, and the spotlight is on. She has some very important choices to make, and it may cost her (and every one else) more than they bargained for.

Delirium
Labels:

I just stayed up until half past Midnight to finish this book called Delirium. Yeah, I have been on a major book-nerd-out. Anyways, I finish. I close the book, and I look around. When I read, I get lost in the book. Hours can pass. Time suddenly caught up to me as I closed the book. My husband and the kids are all asleep --- and here I am, teary eyed. Simply ripped apart by literature. Unless you're a reader, you won't understand. But ... the fact remains. Here I am, alone with this book and my tiny nightlight. It's so quiet. I listen to all the people I love the most breathe so peacefully and beautifully ... and I realize:

Review
Tatiana & I choose a book and hold our own little monthly book club, and call it BestieBook. We take all month, dive into the literary piece we've chosen - and present a review for you on our blogs at the end of the month. Our reviews are not compensated, and seeing as how I volunteer at a public library --- we try to check out the books rather than purchase them. The only exceptions to this are publisher/author proofs, and we will let you know when those happen.
Remember that we are on opposite sides of the United States, and are bibliophiles looking for completely different things in our literature. What I love, she may be completely bored with, and vice versa. It totally helps to go read her reviews too...
Tenative Schedule
(under construction)
Cinder - July
Scarlet - August
The Creation Of Eve - September
